Right now .eco is just a vision. True, it’s a hope that’s backed up by hardwork and big names. But it’s not a certainty yet.
The belief of Dot Eco LLC, the folks behind the .eco top level domain, is that the environmental movement deserves a top level domain, similar to .com or .net, that can be a source of status for eco-minded companies and a source of funding for eco-conscious non-profits.
The group is well on their way. They have already gathered support from environmental leaders Al Gore and the Surf Rider foundation.
There’s a .eco website, a .eco facebook page and the list of supporters grows every day.
In spite of the grass roots support, Dot Eco LLC has some work ahead of them. Dot Eco will apply to ICAAN (the Internet domain governing body) through an open application process later this year.
Should they succeed, we could have a GreenWorld365.eco in our future.
