I have 2 more tips that can help cut down costs and be eco-friendly. My friend and I discovered these after starting a laundry service from our homes. The first is white vinegar. If you put about 3/4 cup into the rinse cycle it acts as a natural fabric sofnter. It also saves money, is eco-friendly and helps keep your HE washing machine clean. The second tip is tennis balls. If line drying isn’t an option try tossing a few tennis balls into the dryer. It cuts down drying time by about 25% while fluffing bulky items at the same time.

Carbon offsetting doesn’t stop you emitting CO2. These schemes often invest in projects happening in the future when we need to stop these emissions now!

Concentrate on flying less, driving less, buying less and more local. Things that make a difference now.

Yes I agree with Giles and there’s also a tax advantage in the UK for businesses to using LED’s over CFL lamps according to one of my suppliers as they are seen as an investment rather than a disposable item. Much nicer quality of light too than fluorescent so win win!

LED lights are the future. Use even less power than a CFL and last even longer.

Typically an ordinary light bulb is 50w, CFL equivalent about 12w and LED equivalent about 4w.

LEDs cost more but concentrate on the most used bulbs first. Payback on an ordinary bulb is about a year to 18months.

It’s not rocket science. It’s just common sense!!
